What is Diabetes?
There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. People with type 1 diabetes are born with it and get diabetes as kids. People with type 2 diabetes are usually overweight or obese and usually develop the disease (diabetes) later in life.
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is a disease where the body can't use insulin or sugar the right way. Insulin makes the body use sugar for energy. Type 2 diabetes can be a lifelong disease. Type 1 diabetes is always a lifelong disease and people with type 1 don't make enough insulin.
What are some signs to look for?
Diabetes affects all systems of the body. Here are some signs to look for:
- Peeing frequently
- Increased thirst
- Numbness, tingling, loss of feeling of the feet and hands
- Blurry vision or blind spots
- Increased hunger
- Increased drowsiness and/or sleepiness
